Hey everyone! I hope you’re all doing well this spring and excited for the outdoor season to get into full swing. Things are going really well so far with me, even though I got the flu the day before my first meet of the season. I probably shouldn’t have competed since I hadn’t eaten for almost two days previous to that and I was feeling beyond weak when I competed. But you know how it goes when you love running. :)

Training is going really well so far. I realized that in my indoor season, I was doing a little overtraining and not taking enough days off during the week. Of course, there’s a good amount of work I want to get done on certain days, and it would be hard to accomplish that if I had to take more days off. My trainer came up with a pretty well planned workout regimen. Monday and Wednesday are my “hard” days where I run in the mornings and workout in the afternoons. Tuesday and Thursday are my recovery and massage days, and Friday is my meet day. Saturday will be a workout day and Sunday will be off. So far, this has seemed to work well with me and it’s nice to get some days off in between my harder workouts.

Because of my hip flexor injury that I had in March, I’ve been continuing some exercises for that with my trainer and have gained a lot of flexibility in doing so. I’ve been doing some jumping over hurdles and it’s nice to feel that I can get my knees up higher than I was ever able to before and I’m hoping this will help me gain a few inches in long jump this season.

My goals for this season is to jump 20 feet in long jump and run in the 11.5s for the 100. Every season I feel stronger and faster, and hopefully I can achieve those goals if everything goes smoothly. My first regular season meet is Friday at Poland, and every day I’m getting more and more excited to compete!

Good luck to everyone this season! :) Kate
