In his own words: Luke Laverdiere How it all began

Road to Running: Part One

Hello everyone! I hope that you are all getting back into the swing of things smoothly this fall! I am certainly enjoying getting back into the cross-country racing schedule after a long summer of hard training and many miles. As we get further and further into the season, I expect the Maine running community to start dropping some crazy fast times! Instead of having each of my writings be an individual piece, I've decided to do a little two part series in my blogs this fall about how I first got into running. This is part one, so stay tuned for more.

When I was a young lad, I didn't know much about anything, except of course the things that occurred in my daily life, such as the stuff I was taught in school and the stuff I'd learned from the seven or eight years I'd been alive for. Growing up on a lake in a rural town called Manchester located just outside of the state capital, I also had a deep knowledge about how to do things like skip rocks, build insane forts in the woods, and climb to the top of some ridiculously tall trees that looking back, I'd never dare to climb again (I have no regrets). However, there was little I knew about the world besides what had been presented to me in my day-to-day life. Not known to me at the time, I believe that this all started to change the moment I decided to join a summer rec track program going into my fourth-grade year. I'd heard the stories of the man, about all of the ridiculous workouts and painful practices he'd make his athletes suffer through every morning during the summer, but I had never actually met the legendary coach Taylor Harmon until that early summer morning on the first day of summer track. Little did I know at the time, but my life was about to change forever...

See you out on the trails!
