Festival of Champions preview: Boys Individuals

Kelton Cullenberg (Jr. Mt. Blue) Cullenberg started the season off with an impressive victory at the Laliberte Invitational (16:33). Unfortunately, Kelton also had appendicitis which caused him to miss a couple of meets and training time. He returned last week with a solid 3rd place at Brunswick running 16:40 for 5k. Cullenberg finished 12th in 2007

 

 

Matt Driscoll (Sr. Lewiston) Driscoll will try to lead the Lewiston Blue Devils to a repeat championship as well as chasing individual glory. Driscoll has been improving each race this fall; he has one individual win, that coming at Edward Little, where he clocked 17:07 in wet conditions. Driscoll finished 26th in 2007

 

 

 

 

Wade Davis (Sr. Hall-Dale) Davis is the defending Class C state champion; he’s had a strong start to the 2008 season as well. Wade has finished first in all but one race this fall, his last time out was an impressive 16:37 clocking at Brunswick for 2nd place. Davis finished 10th in the 2007

 

 

Luke Fontaine (Jr. Cony) Fontaine has continued his strong XC form in 2008. Luke has won the last two races, at Lawrence he ran 16:34 for a 22 second win over Will Geoghegan of Brunswick. His last time out he blitzed the field by 31 seconds at Leavitt running 17:01. Last year Fontaine was 5th.

 

Will Geoghegan (Jr. Brunswick) Geoghegan is coming off an excellent run on his home course at Brunswick last Thursday, which saw him defeat Wade Davis & Kelton Cullenberg by running 16:34. Geoghegan has had some health problems this fall but looks to be back at full strength heading into the FOC. Last year Brunswick didn’t run at the FOC.

Jason Kaake (Jr. Morse) Kaake has had a strong 2008 campaign to date. Jason started the season off with a 2nd place clocking at Laliberte and from there has won the past three meets he has run in. He clocked at 16:44 on the Belfast course back on 9/12 winning by 19 seconds over Sam Seekins. Last week he missed the Brunswick meet due to a lingering illness, hopefully he’s back to full strength this weekend.

 

 

 

James LePage (Sr. Greely) LePage leads a powerful Greely team into the FOC, coming off an impressive individual performance at the Manchester Invitational last weekend, where he finished 3rd in the Small Schools race, clocking a fast 16:26 for 5k to lead Greely to the team championship. LePage will look to duplicate his success this weekend

 

 

Nate Hathaway (Jr. Scarborough) Hathaway’s first HS XC season is off to a good start; Nate has won 3 out 4 races this fall, the only defeat coming from teammate Craig Robinson. Last week, Hathaway broke the course record at Cheverus by 20 seconds by running 16:11 for three miles. Hathaway will be key in the success of Scarborough’s run for the championship at the FOC.

 

 

 

Logan Price (Jr. Greely) Price is having a very successful 2008 season to date. His 15:36 clocking at Cape in the season opening meet was one of the fastest time ever on that course. He scored a victory at Fryeburg, and had a great weekend by finishing 6th in the Small Schools race at the Manchester Invitational, running a pr 16:40 for 5k.

 

 

Craig Robinson (Sr. Scarborough) Robinson is having a fine 2008 season. He has consistently been in the top 2 at every meet this fall. He scored a victory at on his home course breaking the school record with a 16:43 clocking for 5k. Last week Robinson was 2nd again to teammate Nate Hathaway, running 16:17 at Cheverus, which was under the old course record.

Alex Moser (Jr. York) Moser has been one of the top runners in the state this fall. Moser has won 3 out of 4 races this fall. Many of his wins have been by 30 plus seconds. Last Friday, Moser clocked 15:47 for 2.9 mile at Wells.

 

 

Robbie Leeman (Sr. Lewiston) Leeman has run well this fall and will look to continue that trend at the FOC. In his last race at Messalonskee, Leeman battled Sam Seekins all the way to line, but was edged out, nonetheless an impressive 16:36 clocking. Leeman finished 9th last year.

 

 

 

Jeremy Earl (So. Gorham) Earl has burst onto the scene this fall with some impressive races. Earl has won his last three races, his 17:30 clocking on his home course has been his top 5k performance.
