Tell us how your summer training is going?
I hope it's going well. I've been doing team runs and just trying to keep up the mileage.
What are your goals for the upcoming season?
I guess to not do worse than last year. That's always the goal.
How long have you been running and how did you get started?
I started running more seriously in 4th grade after participating in the Indiana Track Club program for four years. This program introduced me to running.
What's a typical training week like?
At the beginning of the summer Jorma gave some mileage goals for each week. He said, "Son, I want you to run this far each week," as he pointed to the numbers. I was like, "Yeah, I get it." So I just try to hit those targets each week, basically dividing up the miles on how I feel.
What is your favorite workout?
I like a good 6 by 200 meters.
What is your favorite course to run in Maine?
I'm a big fan of the Lake Region course. I couldn't tell you why, but I'm just a big fan.
What is the toughest course to run in Maine?
You know, probably the Poland course. Just when you think you're done, you're not. That's tough on a guy, you know?
Out of all your running accomplishments so far, which stands out the most?
I'm gonna have to go with the time I almost beat Josh Simensky. I was ahead of him on the last straight away, and I was like, "Go me!" And then he passed me just before the finish line. It was great.
What do you love most about running?
I like my teammates and the coaches. Jorma is quite the guy once you get to know him.
When you are not running what is your favorite thing to do?
I found a new hobby this summer: raking bunkers at golf courses. You just take a rake, and pull the sand upwards. It's really a fun time when you think about it.
Do you have any pre-race rituals or routines?
Um, not really. Sorry...
Favorite quote?
"To win the basketball game, all you have to do is score points and not let the other team get any." --Hilt
What was the last movie you saw and what did you think of it?
I recently saw the Australian movie "Jasper Jones." It was fire. Absolute fire.
What shoes do you race/train in?
I'm digging the Kinvara 7 model. It really does it for me.
What professional athlete would you most like to meet?
Um, probably Tony Azevedo. He's kinda the best water polo player ever. After that, I'd have to go with John Pasche.
What is something that most people don't know about you?
I once lost a pinky fingernail...
Lastly, if you were stranded on an island with three things what would they be?
Jorma Kurry and any two personal effects of his choice.
