The girls 200m is a must watch event at the Class A State Championship on Monday at USM. Defending state champion Emma Gallant of Cheverus is the top seed at 26.05. Gallant won the SMAA junior division title clocking her time and in the process breaking the league record and moving to 7th best in state history in the event. Gallant has an outdoor best of 24.81 in the event. Freshman teammate Victoria Bossong has made a huge impact this winter, and has pushed Gallant. Bossong was the runner-up SMAA's in a big personal best of 26.18, her time was under the old league record. The Cheverus duo will be looking for 18 points which would be important for the Stags title hopes.
Scarborough who expects to be battling them for the title will look to junior Molly Murnane to split up the Cheverus duo. Murnane is her first season of track sped to a 26.27 to win the senior division race at SMAA's.
With three athletes of this caliber in one race, the state meet record of 25.80 of Kristin Slotnick could be threatened as the ladies will be able to wear spikes for the first time this season.
Falmouth's Sophie Marcotte is seeded fourth at 26.70, with Deering's Annah Rossvall the fifth seed at 26.85. They will be in final section.
