Name: Anthony Chase
School: Gorham High School
What was your most memorable race/meet?
My
most memorable race would have to be my last home meet in the 1600
sprinting past Scarborough in the final 50 meters to win on Senior
night.
Who would you consider your biggest competition over your four years?
Aiden Willey, Alec Troxell, Conner Piers, Sam Mills, Wilkins Rossignol, and Dylan Lamont
What was your greatest accomplishment?
My
greatest accomplishment was finally being able to break 10:00 in the
3200 at Cumberland Counties this outdoor season. Also running my best against the top competition over the last couple years has been a
personal achievement along with qualifying for the New England
Championships in the 2 mile for both Indoor and Outdoor during my senior
year.
If you could do it all over again what would you change about your xc/track&field career in high school?
Probably
my biggest change would be to take running more serious during my
Freshman and Sophomore years of High School instead of waiting until my
Junior year to push myself. Only began running in outdoor season of 8th
grade so I also wish I could've started far soon.
What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?
My
most difficult obstacle would've been when I partially tore my IT Band
during Cross Country Regionals at Twin Brooks this past fall and defying
my Doctor when he told me I couldn't run at the State meet the
following weekend. I went on to run anyway and ended up dropping a 17:40
with pain in every step compared to a 17:51 the weekend prior. This was
a difficult choice I pushed upon myself and could've cost me the
remainder of my High School career.
What will you miss the most?
I'll
miss my 12 seasons as a member of Gorham with all the team dinners,
games of Frisbee, and most of all death hack (too hard to explain that
game). Certainly I'll miss meeting new faces from different teams and
getting to know all the elite distance runners who will definitely
remain lifetime friends of mine.
What advice you would give to younger athletes?
I
would say to the younger athletes just to be confident in yourself
going into races and not to worry so much about those around you. Focus
on yourself and also trying to make your teammates better. Having a bad
race isn't always a bad thing because failure will lead to success.
What influence has your coach had with respect to your performance and overall life goals?
My
coach has had a major impact on my success throughout High School and
has not only made me into a better athlete, but also a better person.
Even though we've had our differences during recent seasons, I wouldn't
take any other coach over him because he understands my approach to running more than most people do.
What are your college plans?
Next
year I will be attending the University of New England to study
Pre-Medicine and either go in the direction of Sports Medicine
Rehabilitation or Radiology as a career. I also plan to run Cross
Country and track as the program has been rapidly expanding the last
couple of years which I'm thrilled to be apart of this fall.
Who would you like to say thank you to?
I'd
like to thank my teammates (especially the cross country group family)
for all the support they've given me throughout every race. Whether I'm
running well or not they've always been there and I truly have come to
appreciate that. My coaches have also given me great advice and have
been there for support as well. My mom has come to every meet as well
which is good because it's always motivating to have family there.
Is there anything else you'd like to add?
Yeah Mitch!
