Name: Camron Holloway
School: Westbrook
What was your most memorable race/meet?
I would say the indoor states meet was the highlight of my track career so far. Highlight of my entire 4 years in high school for me by far. More specifically the hurdles finals, the silence at the line was incredible one of those once in a lifetime moments. My personal favorite part of that race however was the finish.
Who would you consider your biggest competition over your four years?
I would say my competition changed every single year. In the beginning I was racing to be as good as the Westbrook hurdlers ahead of me, Dom Creenan, Shammah Gahomera, Mazin Ahmed. Three awesome guys that really paved the road for me to be where I am. Then from then on I was competing with myself, I just wanted to prove myself to myself really. Then this year, senior year and it was the BEST Travis, Anthony, Jayden. Those guys made me want to work hard to beat them. Every meet I had against them were so much fun, they're all super good guys which made the competition even better.
What was your greatest accomplishment?
After my knee surgery during my junior year to be able to come back after that and win the 55m Hurdles at States just was a dream I had all those months where I couldn't walk or when I was in PT.
If you could do it all over again what would you change about your xc/track&field career in high school?
I would not play soccer in the beginning of my junior year because as cool as it was to have this redemption story I would have really enjoyed to have another year of competition.
What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?
The screws in my leg would be the easy answer but I'd say the expectations that either I had set for myself or the Westbrook hurdlers before me had set. Having 3 years of hurdlers placing in states was a daunting legacy to take on but I think I made those guys proud.
What will you miss the most?
I'm going to miss my kids the most, I loved being a captain on the team and taking the younger kids under my wings. Being able to help them on the track and off with whatever I could was just the best.
What advice you would give to younger athletes?
Don't quit. Focus on your goals and make sure you try nothing short of your hardest to reach them. Track isn't the most forgiving sport, you train for hours and hours for seconds or maybe minutes to put it all back on the track so you've got to take advantage of every chance you get.
What influence has your coach had with respect to your performance and overall life goals?
My coaches have guided me along the right path. Rather tough love towards the end of my career, one rather large missed call ahem, Claton. Other than that my coaches have been awesome all 4 years I've run.
What are your college plans?
I'll be running track at USM, I'll be majoring in marketing.
Who would you like to say thank you to?
I want to say thank you to my parents, my family, all my friends, and all the teammates I've had the absolute pleasure to run with during these last 4 years.
