Bangor Girls Repeat as Class A Champions

The Bangor girls came into the 2022 Class A indoor track and field state championship meet as the favorites to repeat as team champions based on the seeded performances. The Rams got the momentum going in the 4x800 relay where they moved up a spot to grab second place. 

Over at the pole vault junior Anika Noack cleared a personal best 9-6 to earn eight more points and the Rams were on their way.

Junior sprint standout Anna Connors took over from there as she set a new Class A state meet record of 7.16 in the 55m dash title erasing the three year old record of 7.20 set by Victoria Bossong. Her time moved her to third fastest in state history in the short sprint event. Connors the overwhelming favorite in the 400m dash cruised to victory in 58.20. She backed off down the home stretch to conserve energy for her next event and still won by over three seconds. Connors finished her impressive meet off with a record breaking effort in the 200m as she set her second state meet record of the day clocking 25.20. Her winning margin was over a second, and improved the 25.43 set by Victoria Bossong back in 2019. 


Senior distance runner Megan Randall was the other standout for the Rams. The Michigan State bound Randall won the 2 mile pulling away from the field over the last 800 meters to clock 11:07.21. In an exciting race in the mile that was highlighted with a very fast last 400m, Randall came up just .10 seconds shy of the victory with her 5:10.96 effort earning eight more points for the Rams.

In the shot put ring senior Camden Lavoie  added a runner-up finish with her 35-6 1/2 throw in the finals.

The Rams also got a strong effort from sophomore Callie Tennett in the 400m. The seventh fastest seed entering the meet, Tennett won section two in a personal best 62.13, her time was the third fastest overall. Callie came back to help the Bangor 4x200 secure fourth place to close out the meet.

The other Rams, Gorham had a strong meet en route to a runner-up finish. 

Senior Alyvia Caruso won the 55m hurdles in a personal best time of 8.75. Caruso added a pair of runner-up finishes in the long jump (16-8) and the triple jump (36-0 3/4).

Gorham got another win from senior Emma Green who repeated as champion in the high jump with a 5-0 clearance.


The Rams closed out the action on the track with a scintillating race in the 4x200m as the Rams shattered the Class A state meet of 1:48.13 with their 1:47.59. The lineup for Rams was seniors Maddie Michaud, Sydney Connolly, Emma Green and freshman Ashley Connolly.

Thornton Academy senior Mia-Claire Kezal won the mile in an exciting race as she held on to win by .10 seconds with a 5:10.86, closing the final 400m in a fast 70.86 seconds. Kezal doubled back in the 800m to win her second title clocking 2:19.41. She would add a third place finish in the 2 mile (11:30.11) to score twenty-six points on the day.


In the shot put Windham senior Estella Inman took top honors with her 37-10 3/4, while in the long jump senior Amelia Wedderburn of Lewiston took top honors with a 17-11 leap.

The Bonny Eagle girls won the 4x800m relay to start the meet in a time of 10:28.02. In the triple jump Mt. Ararat senior Mikaela Langston leaped out to 36-11 1/2 to take top honors while senior Ainsley Reid of Brewer jumped a personal best 9-9 to win the pole vault.
