Day 2

At New Balance on day 2 Rowan McDonald followed up his 3k race walk title with a runner-up finish in the 1 mile with a personal best clocking of 7:17.12. In the girls race Class B champion Ashlyn Poulin of Gardiner finished third with a 7:50.60 effort.

Bonny Eagle girls 4x800 won the Rising Stars race in a new school record, and lowered their second best time in state history down to 9:25.45. The team was lead off by Delaney Hesler (2:19.06), followed by Addy Thibodeau (2:24.23), the race was blown open by Hannah Stevens (2:20) on the third leg, while Emmaline Pendleton closed it out with a (2:22.17)


Class A 100m champion Anna Connors of Bangor opened her busy day with a 12.63 effort in the Rising Stars 100m to place 37th. Makenna Drouin was back in action clocking 12.86 to finish 48th.

Connors was back in action in the championship 400m later in the day, the Class A champion ran 56.78 placing 25th overall.

Class A long jump champion Alyvia Caruso of Gorham finished seventh in the Rising Stars long jump with a best jump of 18-3.

In the boys Rising Stars 4x100m, Class A state champions Falmouth qualified for Sunday's final with a 43.33 good for second in their heat and seventh best overall.


Day 1

Athletes from Maine are competing all around the country this weekend at the three national championship meets.

In North Carolina at adidas the Bonny Eagle duo of Rowan McDonald and Meseret Day captured the 3k national titles. Both were competing solo in the event so all they had to do was ensure they didn't get disqualified to win their races. McDonald the Class A 1600m race walk champion won the boys race in 20:16.72 while Day took the girls title in her first time competing at the distance with a 20:32.30.

Over at New Balance being held at Franklin Field at the University of Pennsylvania Class B discus state champion Matt Charpentier of York had one legal throw and he made it count with a new personal best of 173-0. The junior finished 13th overall.

In the championship 400m hurdles newly minted 300m hurdle record holder Makenna Drouin of Edward Little finished 20th clocking 65.77 in her first time competing at the longer distance hurdles.

Brewer freshman Devin Horr and Lauren Vanidestine competed in the freshman long jump. Horr leaped 15'5 1/2 to place 9th while Vanidestine had a best of 15-0 1/2 finishing 11th.

The Bonny Eagle girls just missed the state record in the distance medley relay as they ran to a ninth place finish with a 12:24.08, just off the record set by the Scots in 2018 of 12:22.18.


In the boys Grady Satterfield of Mt. Ararat ra 9:29.78 to place 34th overall. In the girls race Class C champion Ruth White of Orono won her section clocking 10:40.82 to finish 11th overall. Senior Megan Randall of Bangor placed 14th with a 10:47.88 effort. Former Scarborough runner Kayla Werner, now a senior running in Virginia earned All-American honors with a fourth place finish running 10:14.24

In Oregon at the Nike Outdoor Nationals, Maya Judice of Thornton Academy was fifth in the 3k race walk in a time of 17:06.49, while in the boys race Lucien Beardsley of Gorham was fifth in 15:52.44
