2023 Outlook:

Houlton/GHCA returns their top seven from the Class C runner-up squad from 2022. Leading the way is junior Teanne Ewings who was the Class C state runner-up, and earned All-New England honors with a 19th-place effort a year ago. Ewings had a big spring that saw her repeat as Class C 1600m champion, she clocked a 4:56.23 at the New England Championship to place third. Junior Natalie Johnson placed 8th at states and will look to crack the twenty-minute barrier this fall.

Houlton/GHCA will have powerhouse Orono to contend with again this year, a year ago the Red Riots were the team that finished ahead of them during the championship season. Leanne & Andrea Ross will be counted on to make the jump if they want to challenge Orono. Leanne didn't have her best race at states last year but bounced back well during the outdoor season as she clocked 5:45.98 in the 1600m. Andrea finished 22nd in the state last fall and had a strong outdoor campaign that saw her clock 12:42.48 for 3200m at the Class C state meet.

Look for the incoming freshman to have an impact headlined by the Mincey twins who had great success at the middle school level last year.

Coach Chris Rines Comments

We had another solid summer season of training this year.  Our big four came off an amazing spring track season and kept it rolling right through the summer.  They really helped set the tone for our underclassmen and newcomers.  I think this was certainly one of the better offseasons we've had in recent years.
I think our team's expectations are high, that's come to be the norm around here for the last few years.  We know who the usual suspects usually are at the top of the team rankings and we're hoping to be right up there again.  We have a strong core of veterans returning and we're hoping to see some of the new kids rise up to meet the challenge.
