2023 Outlook

The 2022 XC season was magical for the Wildcats of York as they captured the school's first girls' XC state title with an excellent performance at the state meet. 2023 York is back after losing just one runner from their top five a year ago, and look to match last year and hopefully exceed their performance from a year ago. Leading the will be Cary Drake who is the defending Class B individual champion. Drake was incredible on the track a year ago too as she won the 800, mile, and 2 mile indoors, and then won the 800, 1600, and 3200m races outdoors. Along the way, she clocked 4:55.35 for 1600m and 11:12.35 for 3200m. Fellow classmate Molly Kenealy was huge in helping York win XC, indoor, and outdoor titles a year ago. She finished fourth individually a year ago. The Wildcats had three freshman in the top seven a year ago so with another year under their belts expect them to be even better, and don't be surprised to see York capture another Class B title this fall.

Coach Fergus Cullen's Comments

We return four of our top five including two-time Class B champ Cary Drake and Molly Kenealy, the strongest 1-2 combo in Maine last year. On paper, the team should be about as strong as it was. This is a group that has now won four titles in a row going back to outdoor track 2022 and the triple crown - XC, indoor & outdoor track - in 22-23. We should be among the top teams again and hope to be in a position to compete to repeat. But one never knows for sure! Our core returning varsity has been doing the work all summer. Our incoming freshmen are inexperienced so we'll see what we can develop there.
