2023 Outlook
The Scots were fifth a year ago at the Class A state meet, and return their entire top seven from 2022. Expectations are high that they can make a title run in October. Leading the way is senior Xavier Lemieux who finished fourth at states last fall. On the track, he clocked 9:40.79 for 2 miles. Lemieux placed second indoors in the 2 mile and third in the 3200 outdoors. Tyler Gilbert has the talent to be a top 10 finisher and Harrison Dunne will be one to watch he's got great range from 400m up to the 5k, and the Belfast course will set up well for him. Racewalk state champion Rowan McDoanld is back and looking strong. The younger guys Brodie Warner and Andrew Catalano look to be much improved as well.
Coach TJ Hesler's Comments
Summer training went really well. We have a pretty dedicated group that has been working hard for a while now. This group has been progressing well for a few years and think we are ready for a good season. We have a low stick potential in Xavier Lemieux and 3 guys who have done some good things in XC and track over their careers at BE in Seniors Tyler Gilbert, Rowan Macdonald, and Junior Harry Dunne. Last years 5/6 guys Brody Warner and Andrew Catalano have been working hard and improving each season. Vying for some of our other spots will be returner juniors Devin Cannon and Nate Sirios, and newcomers, junior Payton Lee and senior Aidan Toy. There is a lot of depth this year in Class A with Portland looking really strong and Scarborough in South and Hampden, as usual, Camden Hills and Brunswick to name a few in the north but we feel we can be in the mix with any of them and hopefully we can be healthy and ready to run well come October and into November.
