2010 Class C Boys XC Preview
Class C Boys Eastern Maine
Last fall the Orono Red Riots took home the Eastern Maine regional title with some 
strong up front running and a solid pack to outdistance the rest of the field. Orono comes into 2010 as one of the favorites, as they return 5 runners from last year's squad. 2009 runner-up Bangor Christian also looks to be a team with a real chance to take home the trophy.
For the Red Riots of Orono junior Alex Bulteel (2nd in 2009 pictured left) is an individual title threat, giving Orono a true front runner, which will be important in the team race. Junior Paul Robinson (14th in 2009) & sophomore Schuyler Collett (20th in 2009), combined with other returners seniors Avery Cole (29th in 2009) & Justin Brooks (51st in 2009) give the Red riots experience and quality to make a run at a repeat.
The other team to keep an eye on is the Bangor Christian Patriots, who have been the runner-ups the last two years, they are hoping that 2010 will be the year they can make the jump to the top spot. Leading the way for the Patriots is junior Brad Wilcox (10th in 2009) & senior Chris Parent (12th in 2009), these two give Bangor Christian a strong 1-2 punch. Sophomore Brian Parent (24th in 2009), the brother of Chris will look to build on his strong freshman season. Fellow classmates Jace Schmidt (35th in 209) & Dylan Merchant (38th in 2009) give the Patriots an experienced top 5 and a team to challenge for the top spot.
Other Teams
Calais: The Blue Devils were 4th last fall earning a spot in the state class. Sophomore Forest Carle (3rd in 2009) give Calais a legitimate front runner.
Central: They didn't have 5 runners cross the finish line last fall. Junior Josh Boudreau (9th in 2009) is the top returner.
Sumner: Finished 6th last year, missing out on the state meet by one spot. #1 returner is junior Taylor Lee (15th in 2009)
Lee Academy: The Pandas were 3rd in 2009, just missing out by 2 points on the runner-up plaque. Senior Josiah Thurlow (11th in 2009) is the top returner
George Stevens Academy: finished 10th last fall, should be able to improve on that in 2010. #1 returner is sophomore Gavin Rogers (42nd in 2009)
Washington Academy: Finished 8th last fall. Top returner is sophomore Andrew Cox (44th in 2009)

Individuals
Junior Matt Guiod (Mattanawcook pictured left) won the Eastern Maine regional title last fall by 24 seconds, Guiod is back looking for a repeat in 2010. Guiod followed up his regional performance with a 4th place run at the state meet, running 17:29 on a much tougher course than his 17:27 from the week before. Matt had a strong outdoor season, placing 6th in the 800m (2:05.02) and 7th in the 1600m (4:43.38) at the Class C state meet.
Other runners expected to challenge are Alex Bulteel (Orono), who was the runner-up last fall to Guiod. Bulteel went on to finish 15th at the state meet. Alex didn't run track in the spring so we'll have to wait and see how he progresses during his junior season.Sophomore Forrest Carle (Calais) had a strong freshman campaign that saw him finish 3rd in the regional meet and then ran to a 13th place finish at the state meet. Carle was the 2nd finisher from Eastern Maine at the state meet. Forrest added a 9th place finish in the 1600m at the Class C state meet this spring.
