Class A Boys 2011 State XC Meet Returners
Individually 2010 Champion Nick Morris (Scarborough pictured left) is back looking to make it 2 titles in a row. Morris ran a patience race last fall moving up throughout the race, before pulling even with runner-up Andy Reifman-Packett (Mt. Ararat), who had a huge breakthrough race, with 400 meters to go, and then used his superior sprint speed to take the win by 3 seconds. Morris had strong track seasons, anchoring the winnning the 4x800 team indoor & outdoor, as well as the individual 800m title indoors. Reifman-Packett showed his big meet ability with a runner-up finish in the mile indoors. Last year's 8th place finisher, Harlow Ladd (Messalonskee) will be looking for a little revenge, Ladd was the early leader in the race last fall before fading after injuring his hamstring. Ladd clocked some fast times in Mile indoors (4:24.16) before coming down with another injury, he rebounded nicely during the outdoor season where he ran 4:24.58 for the mile, and 9:53.55 for 3200m. Sanford's Bryant Perkins finished 14th last fall, he's the 4th fastest returner in 2011. Fellow SMAA runner Christopher Dunn (Kennebunk) 16th a year ago rounds out the top 5 returners.
Teamwise 8 teams return at least 5 runners from last year's state meet. Leading the way is defending champion Scarborough who returns 5 of their top 7, they enter the 2011 season as the early favorite, the Red Storm are once again loaded with front runners & some great depth. South Portland & Kennebunk from the SMAA are the next best returning teams based on 2010 participants, with Edward Little of the KVAC who also will field a strong squad in 2011. The Red Riots will get a boost with Darryl Wilkinson running XC for the first time, Wilkinson could be the #1 runner. Sanford & Windham also fgure to be in the mix.
