MaineTrackXC Senior Boys 2011 Rewind
The senior class was as strong as ever this fall, with Matt McClintock (Madison) winning his 3rd Class C state title & Nick Morris (Scarborough) winning his 2nd straight Class A title.
On the New England stage, the senior class had 4 runners in the top 13 with McClintock (3rd), Harlow Ladd (9th), Tim Follo (11th) & Chase Brown (13th).
Then of course Matt McClintock earned Footlocker All-American status with his 15th place finish at the National Championship. Over the 4 year career this class notched 5 individual state title.
A new name emerged this fall at the front of the pack, Benson Worthington (Brunswick) was the Eastern Maine Regional runner-up & 4th place in the Class A State meet, a year ago Worthington placed 19th
& 60th in those respective meets
1. Matt McClintock Senior of the Year
Matt McClintock (Madison) ran his way into Maine running history this fall. The senior from Madison won his 3rd straight Class C state title, as well as adding regional & conference titles as well. He had the fastest time at the state meet covering the difficult layout at Twinbrook in 15:52.97, his time was 21 seconds faster than anyone else. Matt continued his success as he ran with the leaders at the New England Championship on his way to a 3rd place finish, and his first All-NE award. Mclintock season continued as he moved on to the Footliocker Northeast meet where he ran with eventual National champion Edward Cheserek for the first mile before holding on for a 6th place finish, and one of the highly coveted 10 spots in the National Meet. Matt ended his season with an All-American finish at the Footlocker National Championship in San Diego with his 15th place finish. McClintock certainly let his legs to the talking this fall, he won't soon be forgotten
2. Tim Follo
Tim Follo (Falmouth) had a great senior season that saw him win 4 races. Follo also gave Silas Eastman his closest race at the conference championship where it came down to a sprint finish. Follo tfollowed hat up with a runner-up finish at the Western Maine regional, his 2nd straight runner-up finish. Tim continued his front running with a runner-up finish at the Class B State Championship, a repeat of his 2010 performances. Follo then nabbed his first All-New England honors with his outstanding 11th place run. along with a personal best 16:11 for 5k. While individual success was important, Follo led the the undefeated Falmouth Yachstmen to victory everytime out in 2011, capping it off with a dominating performance at the Class B State meet. Tim has been a front-runner for the Yachstmen and this year was more of the same.
3. Chase Brown
Chase Brown (Boothbay) had another strong xc season in 2011. Brown won 2 races, but was often racing aganist Matt McClintock so you can't fault him for not winning more. Chase was the Western Maine Regional runner-up for the 3rd year in a row, his time was 3rd fastest on the day. At the Class C state meet Brown was the runner-up for the 3rd year in a row, running the 4th fastest time of the day. Chase finished off his HS XC career in style with his 13th place finish at the New England Championship, this was the first time he earned All-NE honors. Brown has been one of the most consistent big meet racers the past 3 years.
4. Nick Morris
Nick Morris (Scarborough) finished out his high school xc career with an impressive resume. Morris won 7 races this fall, and some of them in the most exciting fashion with come from behind wins with his kick. Nick finished 3rd in the Festival of Champions as well as repeated as Western Class A regional champion. The most exciting race of the season came at the Class A State Championship where Morris used his kick to edge by Harlow Ladd at the finish line by .02 to repeat as state champion. Not only did Nick excel individually but he was the leader of the Western Maine Regional Champions & Class A State Champion team, this was the 2nd year in a row he led the Red Storm to victory
5. Harlow Ladd
Harlow Ladd (Messalonskee) won 6 races in 2011, on his way to dominating the competition in the KVAC. Ladd took the KVAC title by 20 plus seconds, added a 2nd straight Eastern Maine Regional title. In what was the most exciting race at the Class A state championship, Ladd seemingly had the Class A state title in his hands, only to get out leaned by .02. Despite the turn of events, Harlow held himself together very well at the awards ceremony. Using the dissapointment of the state meet, Ladd turned in perhaps his best race of his high school xc career at the New England Championship where he ran to a 9th place All-NE finish, running a personal best 16:01 for 5k
