Before this fall, Camden Hills and Washburn weren't known as cross country powers, as the Windjammers didn't win a race as a team in 2010, while the Beavers didn't even have a squad prior to last fall. Fans of both programs had plenty to celebrate Saturday, as Camden Hills edged Mount Desert Island to claim the Class B championship while Washburn breezed to its first-ever Class C crown on a cool, crisp afternoon at Troy Howard Middle School. MDI and Camden Hills entered Saturday's action ranked 2-3 in the coaches' poll, and the Windjammers took advantage of their strength up front, as Brittany Bowman and Willow Parker finished second and third to thwart the Trojans' strong pack and post a 51-52 victory. The Class C teams kick off a full day of racing at 11 a.m., with the girls running first in each class.
