Last fall Bonny Eagle won the first xc state title in school history. The Scots return as the favorite in 2013 based on the returning times for 5k from 2012. Bonny Eagle is led by Mary Szatkowski, the average time for the top 5 is 20:45.
Brunswick who had a young team a year ago that finished 4th in the state meet is primed to challenge for the state title this fall. The Dragons are led by one of the top 1-2 duos in the state in Tessa Cassidy & Tiffany Tanner.
Also expected to be in the top teams in Massabesic, the Mustangs finished as the state runner-ups a year ago. Currently they are ranked 3rd based on returning 5k times from last fall, and have a 21:14 returning 1-5 runner average.
New to Class A Falmouth finished 5th in the Class B meet a year ago, the Yachtsmen have a strong 1-2 followed by a solid pack, and come in ranked 4th based on times from a year ago.
Rounding out the top 5 is Windham, The Eagles were 10th last year with a young squad, they have the talent to make a run at top 3 finish.
This list doesn't take into account any freshman or athletes that may not be running xc this fall. It looks like there a handful of teams that will be in the mix for the state title come November.
