Week #2 Girls
Girls 5k
Kirstin Sandreuter the #1 ranked girl in the state of Maine didn't race this week but no one is near her 18:46. MDI's Maggie Painter ran the #2 5k in the state with her win at the Presque Invitational held at Caribou HS. Massabesic's Gabby Johnson smoked a 20:08 at Deering Oaks last week to win a SMAA meet her time is the fastest in Class A. MDI's Isabel Erickson moved up to the 4th spot with her runner-up, 20:11 clocking at Presque Isle. While freshman Emma Trapani ran a personal best 20:13 to win at Belfast.
Girls 3mi
Aleta Looker of Ellsworth started off her season with a win on her home course at the Ellsworth Invitational, Looker covered the 3 mile course in 19:35. York senior Heather Evans won her 2013 debut on her home course clokcing 19:40. Elizabeth Labun of Hampden Academy just missed breaking the 20 minutes barrier as she ran 20:00.35 to win at Bangor. Maggie Painter was the runner-up at the Ellsworth Invitational running 20:06, while Caitlin Teare of Yarmouth finished 2nd to Evans at York with a 20:12.
Boys 5k
Josef Holt Andrews of Telstar debuted with a fine 16:26 effort for 5k to dart to the top of the list. The Scarborough duo of sophomore Colin Tardiff (16:46) & Jacob Terry (16:47) take over the #2 & #3 spots after a fine 1-2 finish at Portland. Gorham's Jesse Southard of Gorham was last week's leader, he remains in 4th. Ryan Cadorette of Thornton is ranked 5th after his win at McAuley.
Boys 3mi
There where no additions this week to the top 15 in the 3 mile. Ellsworth's Dan Curts got off to a fast start in 2013 as he clocked a personal best 15:43 on his home course at the Ellsworth Invitational. Will Shafer (GNG) had a duel with Braden Becker (Yarmouth) at York as the two both ran under 16 minutes, with Shafer getting the win in 15:54, Becker was 4 seconds back at 15:58. Cape's Liam SImpson opened up with an easy win on his home course as he clocked a 28 second personal best. Bangor's Jonathan Stanhope also opened with a win on his home course, Stanhope clocked 16:08 to hold off a strong effort by Caleb Lord of Hampden Academy.
