Scouting Reports Scarborough Boys

As part of our xc coverage we are taking an in-depth look at some of the top teams around the state by doing a team scouting report.

The Scarborough Red Storm have become the program everyone in Class A is aiming to be, and with good reason, Scarborough has won 6 state title since the move to Class A in 2003, and when they haven't won they have been close. The lowest finish for the Red Storm was a 4th place finish in 2007, they were the 2013 state runner-ups. It's been 2 years since the Red Storm have raised the title, and this year's squad is ready to end the drought. Scarborough returns 6 of their top 7 from last years state meet, and based on 5k times from a year ago is the top overall returning team in the state in 2014

"There is a lot of talent here, but the runners' dedication and commitment to their team and training really stands out along with great depth." Coach Jim Harmon said talking about the strengths of this year's squad. The Red Storm will be lead up front by junior Colin Tardiff (7th) & senior Jacob Terry (12th), this duo gives Scarborough one of the best 1-2 punches in the state. Then you add in junior Andrew Sholl (16th) along with seniors Sean McGovern (29th), Maxim Doiron (42nd) & Jacob Bloom (65th) and you have a strong ingredients for success.

Scarborough is a deep team as well, so along with the returning state meet runners from a year ago they also have junior Connor Doherty & senior Will Fowler, both athlete have run under 10:30 for 3200m on the track. At the recent SMAA Relays the quality and depth was on display as they won 6 of the 7 races, and this was with Colin Tardiff running and winning the JV race.

"Stay healthy, train hard and hopefully make a run at the regional state titles." is the goal for the Red Storm this season according to Harmon. This team is primed to win another state title which would be their 7th in the last 11 years, they have the quality and depth necessary to suceed.

Coach Harmon Says...

"We have a very talented and dedicated team this year with much depth. If we can avoid any serious injuries we should be one of the top teams contending for the championships at the end of the season." "We were 1st in the regional meet and 2nd in the state meet last year. We were a strong, but young team and weren't able to stay with the more mature Lewiston team. I think what we learned was that we can keep improving and our time will come if we keep working hard, but that our training can only affect our conditioning and we can always be surprised by another team."
