Scouting Reports Falmouth boys

As part of our xc coverage we are taking an in-depth look at some of the top teams around the state by doing a team scouting report.

Last season was one with a lot of ups and down for the Yachstmen, they finished seocnd in the Western Maine Regional before having several varsity runners suspended for breaking school rules the next week which left Falmouth short handed for the Class A state meet, despite this they finished a respectable 4th. With last year in the rear view mirror, this year's team is focused on success in the big meets, and hopefully will avoid allowing any outside influences from taking place.

Coach Kurry echoed those sentiments about last year, "The boys had a strong season last year with a lot of young runners emerging and learning how to handle difficult situations and high expectations. Hopefully the team has matured and learned to stay focused on the big goals we have. It is a senior-heavy team that will be expected to handle everything that they encounter this year.

This Falmouth squad is loaded, they return senior Scott Lambert (12th), Sean Soucy (26th), Matt Simmons (54th) & Ben Wyman (55th) from last year's state meet lineup. The Yachtsmen also will have the services of senior Bryce Murdick who was 5th in the WM regional plus fellow classmates Spencer Brown (19th), & Iain Kurry (44th). Another to watch for is junior Josh Simesnky who was injured last fall, he's been right with Murdick & Lambert in Falmouth's first two races.

Speaking on strengths of the team Kurry responded, "One strength of this team is that they enjoy running together. Runs are fun and in big groups. They are a highly energetic group. Harnessing that energy and sending it in the right direction is our challenge as coaches."

If Falmouth can harness that energy in the right direction they have the quality and depth to be the best in Class A. In their WMC opener last week at Twin Brook they looked very strong with the top 4 finishers of the race.

Coach Kurry Says...

"The team goals are lofty. Our main focus will be challenging Scarborough, Massabesic, Windham and Lewiston, among others at the regional and state meets. Along the way we look forward to racing traditional rivals at FOC and the Western Maine Conference Championships."
