State Champion spotlight: Darcy Cochran Cape Elizabeth HS
What were your preparations leading up to the state meet?
Before the state meet I was working on my trail leg going over the hurdles hoping I could improve my time. I also worked on coming out of the blocks with speed.
How did you deal with the pressure and emotions that come along with competing in a state meet?
I was very nervous to be hurdling in the state meet.
You really came on in the hurdles at the end of the season, was there a specific moment you figured the event out? Where you surprised at your success in the event?
The moment I realized I had a chance of winning the hurdles was in the WMC championships when I got a PR that was almost 1/2 better. I was surprised of how far this season I went with hurdles.
You blew away the field at the state meet, what was going through your mind in the blocks? And what was your first thoughts after you crossed the finish line?
When I was in the blocks about to run, I was very nervous. After I crossed the finish line and saw that I had won I was so excited and couldn't believe I had done it.
Coming into the season what were your goals and did you achieve them?
In the season my goal was to win a state medal. And I'm so excited it did happen.
How do you think winning an individual state title will effect you heading into outdoors?
It will boost my confidence a lot! I hope I do well in outdoor like I did this season.
