State Champion spotlight: Daija Misler Hampden Academy
What were your preparations leading up to the state meet?
Leading up to my state meet I focused more on the mental aspect and stress management as well as doing light drills.
How did you deal with the pressure and emotions that come along with competing in a state meet?
I had done preparations all week to be able to handle the stress I was going to feel at the meet. I did some stress relief activities including listen to tunes and knitting which helped me stay focused.
You entered the state meet as the top seed in the shot put, talk about getting off to a strong start on your first throw?
Getting a good throw off at the start helped me a lot because it lifted some of the stress off for the rest of my throws which allowed me to focus on the rest of the throws. Coming in the first seed also was nice because I was used to throwing last in my other meets so it was nice to have the part of my routine.
Coming into the season what were your goals and did you achieve them?
Coming in to he season I really wanted to break 40 and I did which was awesome! I also wanted to win states which I also did. This whole was a lot of fun with our indoor team at Hampden and they really supported me in reaching my goals.
How do you think winning an individual state title will effect you heading into outdoors?
Winning states will help coming into outdoor because it motivated me and keep me driven to do the same thing in outdoor.
