Top Returning Girls' Throwers Ahead Of 2026 Outdoor Season

The Maine throws scene is loaded with talent this season. From athletes dominating a single event to others putting up numbers across two or even all three throws, this group represents some of the best the sport and state have to offer.

Here's a look at the top girls throwers to know right now.

Top Returning Throwers:

Sloan Gardner (Cape Elizabeth HS): Gardner is the defending Class B shot put champion and finished third in the New England Championship. She threw a best of 39-10 last year, during the indoor season. Sloan improved to 41-4 3/4, she won the indoor state title and was fifth in the New England Championship. Her indoor mark moved her to fifth all-time in state history. She will continue her throwing career at Williams College.

Alyssa Mason (Poland HS): The sophomore had a great opening campaign last spring as she was the Class B runner-up in the discus (119-8) and the shot put (36-9 1/2). Mason has the second-furthest returning throws statewide in both events.

Ella Cameron (Yarmouth HS): Cameron was the Class B runner-up in the javelin and was third in the discus last spring. She exploded at the New England Championship, throwing a personal best 126-0 to finish sixth to earn All-New England honors. She was also eighth in the javelin and had a best effort of 119-9 last spring. Cameron will continue her track and field career at Tufts University.

Audrey O'Meara (Seacoast Christian): The Class C javelin champion in 2025, O'Meara had a best of 116-2 and the second furthest returning throw statewide in the event. She also scored in the 200 and 400m events at the C state meet.

Ava Syphers (Bangor HS): The defending Class A champion in the discus, Syphers had a best of 115-5 a year ago. She has the third-longest returning throw statewide.

Olivia Lizzotte (Old Town HS): Lizzotte won the Class B javelin state title a year ago with a personal best 110-10 effort.

Angelina Boisvert (Nokomis HS), the Class C shot put champion last spring at MCI, Boisvert has transferred back to Nokomis. She had a best of 35-4 1/2 during the indoor season.

Hadley Oliver (John Bapst) Oliver has improved greatly in the shot put; a year ago, she had a best of 32-8 and was 9th in the B state meet. During the indoor season, she improved to 38-11.25 and was the runner-up at the state meet, just off the podium at New Englands with an 8th-place finish. Look for her to contend in the discus as well this spring.
