Hey Guys,

This week was pretty exciting track-wise. We’ve had a good week of training since New Years Relays, and got back to work on our events. I didn’t get much sleep though, as I was up late every night trying to finish a bunch of homework that teachers are cramming in before Mid-Terms. After only a 4-day week of school, we had our first Friday meet of the year. These meets are a little tougher on the body because you’re already tired from school, but I would say everyone fared well as multiple PR’s were set.

The meet this week was against Old Town, Brewer, and Hampden. In the mile Jon Belanger and Jake Archer both PR’d, running 4:42 and 4:50, respectively. In the 800m, our team claimed 5 of the top 6 spots. Dave Correale took the race out hard and all we could do was chase him. After 2 minutes 2 seconds Dave broke the tape, followed by me in 2:04, Shi in 2:08, Williams in 2:10, Joe Belanger in 2:10, and Ben Salinas rounded out the scoring contingent with a lifetime best 2:11.84. Dave’s performance gave him his second state leading time (51.69 for 400m).

After about 15 mins rest, the two-mile was on the track. Paul Rudnicki and I were in this race for our team, and we managed to finish 1-2. I ran to a 10:29, while Paul finished with a season best 11:10. In the girls 2-mile, first time track runner Mandie Monk of Bangor set our school record with her solid 12:01. Everyone on the team seems to be improving, which is a good sign for this time of year!

While the girls won their meet pretty handily, our boys team had to squeak out a win in the pole vault, as Jessiah Harris’ clearance of 11 ft secured us the victory. Everyone performed really well on all the teams, and hopefully everyone will continue to improve on their marks. Luckily for our training we haven’t had much snow at all, so the roads have been ideal for long runs. I hope you all are staying healthy this winter!

Don't bother just to be better than your contemporaries or predecessors.
Try to be better than yourself.
