Class A titles on hold...

 

The Class A State championships won't be decided until Wednesday after the pole vault was suspended. The Girls meet is very close with Edward Little leading Scarborough 75-74 both teams have highly ranked athletes. On the boys side Sanford is the leader in the clubhouse with 69, Cheverus is 2nd with 65, while Bonny Eagle is 3rd with 55.5. All 3 teams have vaulters competing on Wednesday.

Edward Little got a win in the racewalk from Abby Dunn who won her 4th straight Class A 1600m racewalk title, Dunn's time was 7:21.71 a personal best and just off the Maine All-time best of 7:19.77. The Red Eddies also got a big win in the 4x100m relay with the team of Ayumi Ranucci, Jaclyn Masters, Avery Chisholm, Marykate Masters, they clocked 50.67. Jaclyn Masters was the runner-up in the 100m 12.53

Scarborough got some big performances out of their seniors with Nicole Kirk (Scarborough) wining the 100m (12.25) the mark broke the state meet record of Kristin Slotnick (12.29) set in 2008. Kirk also added her 3rd straight win in the 200m clocking 25.80. Emily Tolman added a runner-up finish in the 400m (59.17) & then came up with a strong 200m (26.62) to finish 3rd overall. Kirk & Tolman, combined with Karli Gilbert & Marissa Agger to win the 4x400 in 4:07.81. Haela Booth-Howe entered the discus as the 13th seed she would end up 2nd overall with a throw of 106-3, the mark improved on her best of 93-0 entering the meet.

Sarah Perkins (Gorham) won the 100m hurdles (15.02) & 300m hurdles (45.43) by dominating the competiton.

Abbey Leonardi (Kennebunk) added two more titles to her impressive resume as she fought hard over the last lap in the 1600m to hold off Erzsebet Nagy (Lawrence). Leonardi crossed the line in 4:56.87 to Nagy's 4:57.66. Abbey would also win the 3200m easily as she set a new seasonal best 10:45.49.

In the jumps Tiffany Gray of Bangor took both the long jump (16-11 1/4) & triple jump (36-0)

 

Sanford leads heverus 69-65 with the pole vault remaining

Sanford was led by Alex Shain who scored wins in the 100m (11.33) & triple jump (42-6 3/4) &  Dan Webb who powered his way to a win in the 400m (49.93) & 200m 22.88, both marks were personal bests. Sanford also scored a win in the 4x100 with Shain & Webb providing key legs. Jimmy Chaisson came up big in the 800m (1:58.99) for 4th, as did Bryant Perkins in the 3200m (9:48.46)

Cheverus was paced by wins from Joe Slattery in the long jump (20-6 1/4), Matt Cushing in the javelin 158-6, & the 4x400m relay 3:31.79. The Stags also got a runner-up finish from Brady Foshay in the 800m (1:57.76)

Harlow Ladd (Messalonskee) claimed the 1600m (4:23.44) & 3200m (9:40.51). Ladd was pushed in the 1600m but easily pulled away for the win on the last lap, in the 3200m he was in complete control. Harlow also played good teammate role as he ran in the 4x800 & 4x400 today

Rudy Pandora of Lewiston entered the finals in the shot put in 7th he ended up pulling out a win with a huge personal best 52-11 on his final throw. Pandora was 1 of 3 Lewiston athletes to score in the final.

The slippery conditions combined with a tight sector in the discus had defending state champion Shane Corbett down to his last throw after he fouled his first two, the senior dug deep and came up with a huge 153-11 toss that would be over 13ft further than the next best throw.
