Freshman Olivia Reynolds of Maine Coast Waldorf surprises, while Maranacook wins first Class C Regional Crown

Coming into the Southern Maine Regional Championship freshman Olivia Reynolds had a plan.
"I was hoping to race with a teammate, and we did the first half of the race together which was so nice"
That teammate she was referring to was senior Olivia Skillings who would go on to finish third.
Reynolds and Skillings set the pace in the race running together as they hit the finger loop before mile two together with Molly McGrail right behind.
As the runners emerged, Reynolds had made her move to front, gracefully floating along the hard packed track.
"I saw my coach and I knew my teammate was hurting and falling back a little, and coach said go for it, and I did." Reynolds said
And go she did pulling away from McGrail of Maranacook by 25 seconds over the final mile, finishing with a 20:26.11 winning time.
McGrail who drew even with the Maine Coast duo during mile two, fought her way to a runner-up finish. The sophomore finished in 20:51.46.
The aforementioned Skillings held off a fast closing Alexandra Hammerton of St Dominic Academy for third place, the times were 21:10.93 & 21:11.02 respectively.
Abby Pipkin of Waynflete rounded out the top five with a strong 21:13.43 effort.
The team race was all Maranacook, as the Black Bears showed great pack running with Laura Parent, Sophie O'Clair & Maddie Taylor coming across the line in succession from 6th through 8th place. The Black Bears who dropped down from Class B this fall, showed they will be the favorite to win the Class C state title next week there performance today. Madelyn Dwyer closed out the scoring runners with a 14th place finish, and for good measure 6th runner Dana Reynolds was 17th, and seventh runner Lily Welch 21st giving Maranacook 7 of the top 21 harriers in the race.
Maine Coast behind the 1-3 finish from Reynolds & Skillings secured the runner-up plaque as they finished 14 back on champion Maranacook. Other scorers were freshman Mamie Whittier in 9th, sophomore Ava Teegarden in 14th & senior Louise Ahearne in 25th.
