Maine Athletes Slated to Compete at Indoor Nationals

Some of the state's top athletes will test their ability against the best competition in the country at Indoor track and field national meets in New York and Boston this weekend. Below is your guide to who is competing where and in what along with the time schedule. 


New  Balance Indoor Nationals (Boston)

FRIDAY TRACK EVENTS

9:15 am - Bonny Eagle senior Jacob Schmader will compete in the Rising Stars 400m. Schmader will look to break the 50 second barrier, coming into the meet he has a best of 50.30 on the season. Schmader is coming off a strong 1:23.87 for 600m at the New England Championship where he finished ninth,

10:01am - James Cognata (Winthrop) clocked 49.30m for 400m after the state meet on this same track at the Night at the Track #3 to move to second best in state history in the event.


10:41 am - Anna Connors of Bangor the state leader at 400m (57.28) will look to match her success from a year ago where she won the emerging elite title (55.62). Connors has been battling an ankle injury that is improving. Last week she finished 5th in the New England 300m (40.46) to earn All-New England honors.

11:17 am - New England two mile champion Adam Bendetson of Scarborough will look to lower his state leading 9:13.99 which has he ranked fifth best all-time in state history.

4:55 pm - Falmouth will look to run one of the fastest times in state history in the sprint medley relay with the team of Jackson Boyd, Finn Caxton-Smith, Miles Gay and Miles Woodbury.


SATURDAY TRACK & FIELD EVENTS
9:00 am - Class B state meet record holder Reece Perry of Freeport will compete in the Rising Stars pole vault. Perry leaped 14-1 last time out to winning the state title, he has a best of 14-3 on the season.


10:16 am - New England runner-up and Class B state meet record holder Miles Burr of MDI will compete in the 60m dash. The state record of 7.04 will be under pressure here from the junior as he looks to put his name in the record books again. Burr broke the 300m (34.90) record at the New England's last week.

11:00 am - Class B state champion Corbin Flewelling with look to improve on 46-1 1/2 personal best which ranks him third best in state history in the triple jump

2:47 pm - Anna Connors the state record holder in the 200m (24.36) will compete in the championship prelims of the one lap race.

5:30 pm - Class A triple jump champion Billy Albertson of Skowhegan goes in the emerging elite triple jump. Albertson leaped out to the seventh best jump (45-5) in state history at the Class A meet.

5:55 pm - James Cognata (Winthrop) and Nathan Blades (Portland) will toe the line in the Championship 800m. Cognata (1:54.45) leads the way with Blades (1:54.72) right there. They rank fourth and fifth all-time indoors in state history in the event and will be looking to ascend higher.


SUNDAY TRACK & FIELD EVENTS
8:00 am - The 1 mile racewalk will feature several Maine athletes Maya Boyington, Rahel Delaney, Kiersten Dinsmore, Abigail Fortin, Maya Judice and Ashlyn Poulin. Poulin clocked 7:32.42 in the one mile walk at the Millrose Games where she finished 8th. A year ago Poulin finished third overall to earn All-American honors.

8:22 am -The boys 1 mile race walk also has strong Maine representation with Lucien Beardsley, Carter Butterfield, and Rowan McDonald. McDonald walked a personal best 7:03.58 for eighth pace at the Millrose games. He placed fourth a year ago with Beardsley following close behind in fifth to earn All-American honors in 2022.

10:00 am - New England runner-up Billy Albertson of Skowhegan fresh off a personal best 22-7 1/2 to move to fifth best in state indoor history.

11:03 am - Sub five minute Cary Drake of York will look to lower her personal best of 4:59.11 in the mile. Drake ran solo out of the slow section at New England's clocking 5:02.01 for third place.

2:30 pm - New England shot put runner-up and Class B state meet record holder Matt Charpentier of York will be chasing the sixty barrier. Last time out he set a personal best 59-8 3/4 to move to sixth best in state history.


Nike Indoor Nationals (New York)

FRIDAY TRACK & FIELD EVENTS

8:56 am - Class A two mile champion Addy Thibodeau of Bonny Eagle will run in the Emerging Elite 2 mile. Thibodeau comes in with a 11:26.41 best in 2023.

10:30 am - Class A pole vault champion Maya Judice of Thornton Academy will compete in the Emerging Elite pole vault. Last time out she set a new personal best of 10-10 to move into a tie for sixth best in state history.

3:35 pm - The Scarborough girls will run in the Emerging Elite 4x200m relay as the Class A champions hope to revenge a drop baton at New England's last weekend. Running for the Red Storm will be Emerson Flaker, Julia Black, Bailey Stoddard-Baughman and Caroline Fallona as they look to improve on their seasonal best of 1:49.12.


5:25 pm - Scarborough will return to the track for the Championship Sprint Medley relay with Emerson Flaker, Julia Black, Caroline Fallona and Kyleigh Record. They will be chasing the state record of 4:20.08.

SATURDAY TRACK & FIELD EVENTS

10:50 am - Class A 55m champion Caroline Fallona of Scarborough will sprint in the 60m championship heats. Fallona will look to improve on her personal best of 7.86 in the event.

1:30 pm - Class A long jump champion Julia Pendleton of Bonny Eagle will look to improve on her personal 17-5 she did at the New England Championship

3:49 am - Scarborough senior Parker Killiard to Class A state 200m champion, and second fastest in state history (22.30) will compete in the Emerging Elite 200m.

SUNDAY TRACK & FIELD EVENTS

9:12 am - Brunswick senior Miles Logan will run in the Emerging Elite 800m, Logan has a personal best of 1:57.99 that he ran earlier this season.
