Salute to Seniors: Kallie Warner Bonny Eagle High School

Fill out the Salute to Seniors Form

Name: Kallie Warner

Team:  Bonny Eagle High School

When and how did you get into track and field?

In elementary school, I won a turkey at the Buxton Center Turkey trot. Then I followed my older sister's footsteps and did run club in 4th and 5th grade, I have been running since.

Who would you consider your biggest competition over your four years?

I didn't really have consistent comp, it was different every year.

What was your greatest accomplishment?

My personal greatest accomplishment was placing top 20 at FOC and getting a bag. My favorite team accomplishment was when we placed 5 in the top 7 at regionals my junior year. Honorable mention: breaking the middle school pacer test record

How has track and field impacted your life?

Track and field has helped with so many highs and lows in life but the people that came with the sport did so much more for me. I will forever be grateful for everyone I met within the track and field scene, they all have had a huge impact on my life.

What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?

Being anemic was the biggest obstacle I had to overcome. Anemia messed up a whole year of running for me, almost all of my times were a minute or more slower and I had no idea why. I highly suggest every athlete to get their blood drawn before each running season!

How do you prepare for competitions?

Carb load, stretch, roll, and get lots of sleep two nights before the meet (that is the most important night of sleep). My favorite pre-meet prep was when my Grandma would make a mean shrimp scampi for carb loading.

What influence has your coach had on your high school career?

Dyer taught me how to be a leader, work hard, and change my mindset from bad to good but he was also one of the first people I would go to if I needed advice. He was there for everything (and dealt with multiple of my mental breakdowns). As one of the most consistent people in my high school career, he has had one of the biggest impacts. I am and always will be grateful I had the privilege of being one of his athletes.

Do you have any hobbies or interests outside of track and field?

I love to ski (thanks to Addyson), ice skate, swim, hike, and I was a dancer for 11 years.

What are your college plans?

Attending Keene State to major in nursing as well as run all year round.

What are your long-term goals?

Keep my passion and motivation for running during college and hopefully marathon train after college.

Who would you like to say thank you to?

Thank you to everyone who has supported my running career. A special thanks to my brother who was there for it all, you are amazing and I know you will do great things your senior year.

What advice would you give to younger athletes?

Don't let any race (good or bad) define who you are as a runner. The work you put into this sport will show if it is meant to. Have faith in your training and stay consistent, but never forget why you are a runner and what made you originally fall in love with running.
