How we compiled the list: All class state meets for a given year were combined, and then the teams were assigned a number based on how they finished in the combined state meet. 25 points for being the top team down to 1 point for the 25th-best team in any given year. After a third-place finish in 2023, the York Wildcats have improved to the best XC program in Maine since 2000. The Wildcats haven't been the top team but have ranked second two times (2007 & 2016) while finishing in the top five eight different times. York has been the fifth-best program over the last ten years.
