#9 William Coull (Greely)

Class of 2025

2023 Results

  • Class B State Meet 6th Place (16:39.86)
  • Class B Southern Regional 7th Place (17:26.66)
  • Western Maine Invitational 5th Place (17:32)
  • Maine Festival of Champions 14th Place (16:17.69)
  • New England Championship 86th Place (16:48.31)

Coull had a strong post-season finish a year ago culminating in a sixth-place finish in the Class B State meet. Additionally, a year ago William clocked a best of 16:17.69 for 5k. During the indoor track season, Coull placed fifth in the Class B mile (4:39.29) and improved to 4:30.84 in the 1600m outdoors where he finished fourth. Look for William to come on strong in the post-season as he gets back to full strength after an injury.

Getting to Know William

How has your summer training gone? Approximately how many miles have you logged?

I got a stress injury in my femur during the outdoor season which has meant a lot of cross-training miles with biking and swimming. I'll probably have about 50 running miles logged by the end of the summer.

What are you looking forward to during the 2024 XC season?

I'm looking forward to a great Greely team atmosphere and working on PRs.

What are your goals for the season?

I'm hoping to do well in the later season races when I can finally get back out there. I'm hoping to take a good chunk off of my cross pr as well.

Biggest takeaway from the 2023 XC Season?

My biggest takeaway from last year was that I need to be smarter with race preparation and make sure I'm saving it all for the biggest races.

What's the best piece of advice you've gained from your coaches?

The best advice I've gained from my coaches is taking easy days easy and hard days hard. I've felt this has helped with recovery and performance throughout high school. Trying to compensate for a bad workout the next day at practice during an easy run is not the way to go.

Favorite XC Course?

Belfast because I've pr'd both years of XC on that course.

Starbucks, Aroma Joe's or Dunkin?

Dunkin

What spikes do you race in?

Nike Dragonfly for xc and hoka Celios for track.

Favorite pre-race meal?

PEANUT BUTTER AND JELLY

What was your favorite moment from the Olympics?

1500 all the way love to see the red white and blue take the win. That kick I've rewatched so many times.
