Preview story on the Maine XC Festival of Champions, scheduled to be run in Belfast on Saturday. Approximately 75 teams and 1,692 runners are expected to compete. The MDI girls and Cumberland, R.I. boys are defending champions and are both returning, as is Ellsworth's Dan Curts, the reigning boys' champ. With 2012 girls winner Bethanie Brown now at Iowa State University, we'll have a new girls' champion. And there's quite a few contenders.

Josef Holt-Andrews of Telstar shattered the course record at the Maine Cross Country Festival of Champions Saturday, while Bonny Eagle's Kialeigh Marston, the Lewiston boys and MDI girls also topped the podium. Over 70 teams, including two from Rhode Island, two from Canada and one from Vermont, and more than 1,600 runners participated in this mid-season invitational.
