2012-13 Indoor Track Event Previews: Shot Put
Class A
Defending champion Jared Bell the surprise winner of the 2012 title is the heavy favorite to defend his title in 2013. Bell is the only athlete returning who has thrown over 50 feet, his best last winter was 51-11 1/2. Junior Duncan Preston of South Portland is the only other returning scorer this winter, Preston was 5th a year ago with a best of 44-11 1/2. Look for Thornton's David LePauloe to have a good season his best last winter was 47-9 3/4. Another to key an eye is Mike Pino of Scarborough who threw 47-7 3/4 as a sophomore.
All returners who meet the state qualifying mark of 41'6"

Class B
Three state meet scorers are back in 2013 led by 2012 runner-up Trevor Alley of MDI. Alley threw his seasonal best 44-7 1/2 last winter in the state meet. Greely junior James Ferrar finished 4th a year ago a mark he matched in the outdoor meet. The other returning scorer is Brock Deschaine of Winslow who nabbed a 6th place spot a year ago, he also matched that place outdoors. There is plenty of room for some newcomers on the podium this winter.
