Well here we are, the championship season. Hopefully you all had successful regional meets, but at long last, the race everyone has been preparing all year for is finally here.
Fastest 500 Boys Times in State Meet History @ Belfast (Updated)
In the Class A Northern Maine Regional XC Championship scorekeepers need to use the 6th runner as a tie-breaker to award the Brunswick boys their championship as the Dragons and Hampden Broncos both finished with 53 points. In the Girls meet Camden, led by Augusta Stockman, used their depth to take the title.
Lisandro Berry-Gaviria of Mt Ararat showed he's still the favorite to win the Class A title with his record breaking run at KVAC.

All class state meets for a given year were combined, and then the teams were assigned a number based on how the finished in the combined state meet. 25 points for being the top team down to 1 point for 25th best team in any given year. Check out what programs have been successfully year after year. We have the last 5 years & last 10 years broken down for you.
Nine teams from the KVAC and MVC met at Lisbon. The Cony women and Brunswick men came away with the wins.
In a KVAC at Belfast meet featuring Gardiner, Lawrence, and Brunswick, the Belfast women prevail over Lawrence while the Brunswick men hold off the hosts.

The Lewiston Girls beat back challenge from Belfast while the Lewiston Boys bested Cony in an early season meet at Bates that also featured Brunswick, Maranacook, and Camden Hills.

Records Fall at Class A State Meet. A total of 5 state meet records fell as the Scarborough boys won their third title in a row, while the girls meet ended in a tie with Cheverus & Scarborough.

The postseason is officially here! The Northern and Southern Regional championships went off on Saturday. The North headed to Troy Howard Middle School in Belfast, while the South went to the Twinbrook Recreational area in Cumberland. Both regions produced close finishes and great individual performances. Let's take a look at the highlights.
Augusta Stockman's individual win paces the WIndjammers to their first regional title in Class A. While Wyatt Lord leads the Broncos of Hampden to the boys team title. Mt. Ararat's Lisandro Berry-Gaviria takes the individual Class A title.
Northern Maine Class A Regional XC Championship Preview
In Class A, Camden Hills takes the team title over Mt. Ararat with a 15 point margin. But in Class B Maranacook wins handily. Individual titles go to Garace Iltis of Camden and Olivia Tiner of Winslow.
Hampden, led by Wyatt Lord, gets by Bangor in the KVAC Boys Class A Championship. Mt. Ararat is third, but the Eagle's Lisandro Berry-Gaviria takes the individual title.In Class B, Lincoln Academy ran away with the title led by individual champion Sam Russ.
In Class B expect Lincoln Academy to take the team title. In Class A Bangor, Hampden, and Mt. Ararat look to be favorites with Brunswick as a wild card.
It will be a tough battle between Camden Hills and Mt. Ararat for the girls' Class A team title. In Class B Maranacook should take the crown.
Favorites to win their respective divisions at the KVAC meet the Camden Girls, and LIncoln Academy Boys Inaugurate the New Crockett Cross Country Trail at Camden Hills Regional Hill School.
Close finishes from around the state and the 43rd running of the Manchester Invitational highlighted the weekend that was in Maine XC. Let's take a look at the top moments from the weekend.
Familiar foes Mt. Ararat, Brunswick and Morse face off for the third consecutive week. The meet was at Lawrence and also feature Nokomis and Skowhegan.
This weekend in Maine XC featured two of the top girls' teams in Class A squaring off in Falmouth and two of the top male runners in Class A North facing off for the second time and three weeks.
Mt. Ararat continues to roll with boys and girls team wins at Brunswick over Morse and MCI.

Will Shaughnessy of Brunswick has been one of the top freshman in the state this fall. Shaughnessy has a best of 17:33 for 5k to his credit so far in 2016. We caught up with him to ask him a few questions, check it out below.

The team competition for the Class A girls state meet should be one of the more intriguing story lines this weekend. Bonny Eagle, Massabesic, Scarborough, Brunswick and even Falmouth have all, at times, shown that they've been able beat each other.
It was a back and forth battle between Anne Guadalupi of Cony, Tessa Cassidy of Brunswick, & Katherine Leckbee of Mt Ararat as the trio each had the lead at some point during the race as they tried to drop eachother.
Round 2, the same teams that competed for the KVAC Class A title at Cony last Saturday will duke it out again this weekend at Belfast. A lot can change in one week, and most notably will be the course. Cony is known as a difficult course while the layout at the Troy Howard Middle School is more like a racetrack.

Kicking off the 2014 XC season with the Preseason MaineTrackXC Athlete/Fan XC poll. Check to see who the athletes & fans think are the top 12 teams now that the regular season is underway. Lewiston's Isaiah Harris opened his 2014 xc season with a narrow win over Mt Blue's Aaron WIllingham, the final time was 13:17.76 to 13:18.29. While on the girls side Kent's Hill Anne McKee had an easier time as she was 4 seconds better than Tessa Cassidy of Brunswick, 15:58.23 to 16:02.06. Overall Brunswick was the top program with the boys and girls scores added together, the Dragons tallied 708 to Mt Blue's 766.

The Brunswick girls won the KVAC Class A crown over Messalonskee while the Waterville girls were tops in Class B again. On the boys side Edward Little pulled out the win over Lewiston while in Class B Waterville had no match. Check out the rest of the action
The Maine Running Company XC Performance of the Week voting is complete for week #4. On the girls side Teresa Murphy of Brunswick was selected as the winner for her 19:47 5k on her home course, while the boys winner was Dan Curts of Ellsworth for the 2nd time this fall for his outstanding run at the Manchester Invitational

Josh Horne of Mt Blue took the opening season 2.4 mile race at the Scott Laliberte Invitational today at Cony HS. On the girls side South Portland's Shannon Conley made the trek north a successful one with a victory. Brunswick was the the top team in the combined results.

The Maine Running Company Outdoor Track Performance of the Week voting is complete for week #5. On the girls side Laura Turner of Gorham took home the honors, while the boys winner was Brunswick's Jamie Ross

Lake Region's Kate Hall had a phenomal day at the New England Chmapionships as the sophomore won the 55m dash in 7.07 & was runner-up in the long jump 18-5 3/4, both marks set Maine all-time bests. Aleta looker of Ellsworth broke the all-time record in the 1k, 2:53.73, and the Cheverus boys lowered their own all-time best in the 4x200m relay to 1:32.06. Check out the rest of the action.

The Maine Running Company Indoor Performance of the Week voting is complete for week #7. On the girls side Ellsworth's Aleta Looker took top honors with her state leading 800m 2:18.10, on the boys side Brunswick's Alex Nichols was the unanimous winner with his 50.14 state leading 400m performance.
Alex Nichols of Brunswick was on fire last night as he ripped new state leading marks in the 400m (50.14) & 200m (22.89), he previously held both marks but significantly lowered them last night. Check out the rest of the action

Let's take a look at the the top returning teams for Class A Girls XC in 2012.
It was a great 2011-2012 in both cross country and track across the Great State of Maine. Many of our seniors will soon be on their way to start their college careers both athletically and academically so we wanted to salute them one more time in this special feature.
The Maine Running Company Indoor Track Performance of the Week voting is complete for week #4. On the girls side standout sprinter Alexis Dickinson (Brunswick) took top honors dominating the voting with over 60%.Dickinson clocked a vlazing 7.31 in the 55m dash, good for a new state leader & NBIN qualifier, additionally she added the ME#2 time for 200m 26.39. Alexis who is the defending Class A champion at 55m, looks to be rounding into top form as the championship meets approach. On the boys side Edward Little star Connor Harris was selected based on his huge 45-4 ME#1/US #46 jump, as well as a state leading 6-4 clearance in the HJ. Both of Harris's marks qualify him for the NBIN championship, as well as both being indoor personal best in both events. Connor who placed 2nd in the HJ in the state last winter looks primed to stand atop the podium at least once this year.
Alexis Dickinson (Brunswick) sprints to a new state leader in 55m 7.31, EL girls get the stick around in 1:50.02 another new state best, while Connor Harris goes off 6-4 (HJ) & 45-4 (TJ) both new state leaders.
The Brunswick girls are undefeated and positioned to make a run at their first state title. After finishing third last year, Coach Dave Delois has a wait-and-see approach, but his girls have leading qualifying times in several events. (via www.pressherald.com)
Three new state leading marks from the KVAC regular season meet @ Bowdoin College as Brunswick's Alexis Dickinson cranked a 7.44 in the 55m to take over the state leader, while in the pole vault Lindsey Folsom of Cony regained her state lead in the pole vault with an 11-0 clearance. On the boys side Harlow Ladd of Messalonksee dominated the 2 mile with a new personal best & state leading 9:35.49 in the 2 mile. To read more..
An outstanding race from Sam Wood (11th) and steady performances from the rest of the team enabled Mt. Ararat to pull off a surprise victory in KVAC Class A boys action today. The Eagles emerged with an 80-89 edge over Bangor. Lewiston placed 3rd.On the girls side, Brunswick used a strong 1-5 pack to edge Mt. Ararat by single point 42-43. Mt. Blue took 3rd place. Individual races were won by Harlow Ladd of Messalonskee and Erzebet Nagy of Lawrence. Brunswick's Benson Worthington put on a late charge to overtake Andy Reifman-Packett of Mt. Ararat for 2nd place. On the girls side Teresa Murphy of Brunswick and Kelly Lynch Of Mt. Ararat took 2nd and 3rd.

Andy Reifman-Packett cotinued his winning ways during the 2010 XC season, Andy covered the 5k course at Brunswick this afternoon in 16:43. On the girls side Katie McMahon continued her impressive running winning the girl race in 19:20. Click headline to read race recap. RESULTS to come...
The Mt. Blue boys and the Brunswick girls took top honors among nine teams in a KVAC meet at Lawrence today. In the boys race Mt. Blue placed three runners in the top five. Jaron Jones (2nd), Jonah Jones (3rd) and Brody Hines (5th) all went under 18:00 to lead the way. Rapidly improving Sophomores Justin Tracy (14th) and Sully Jackson (29) helped the Cougars to a team low score of 53. Team places 2-4 were seperated by a mere five points. Maranacook used a solid pack lead by Evan Vincent (7th) to finish with 76 points. Bangor used a strong top three lead by Jon Stanhope (8th) to place 3rd with 78 points. Race winner Will Lundquist (Pictured left) and 4th place finisher Alex Smith lead Cony to a total of 81 points. Lundquist and Jaron Jones ran together for about 2 1/2 miles before Jones missed a turn and had to turn around allowing Lundquist to open up a lead and gradually pull away to finish in 16:44. On the girls side Brunswick bunched five runners in the top 14. Kathleen McMahon (2nd), Teresa Murphy (3rd), Madsy Scheider (10th), Sabrina Levesque (13th) and Megan McDonough (14th) lead the Dragons to a team low 42 points. Mt. Blue, lead by Addie Cullenberg and Gwen Beacham in 4th and 5th place was 2nd in the team scoring with 57 points. Michelle Haluska and Sarah Chavarie in 8th and 9th place helped Brewer to 3rd place with 79 points. The overall winner was Abby Mace of 4th place Maranacook in a time of 18:54. Will Geoghegan (brunswick) returned to his top form today as he won a close battle over Wade Davis (Hall-Dale), the defending class C champion, & Kelton Cullenberg (Mt. Blue). Geoghegan led the entire race as he toured the course at Crystal Spring Farm in Brunswick in 16:34, Davis was a few steps back in 16:37 with Cullenberg coming across the line in 16:40. Brunswick was the top boys team. On the girls side of things, Taylor Burr (Maranacook) was the race winner of the girls side as she was teh clear winner, leading wire to wire in 20:41. The team race was highly anticipated between Mt. Ararat, Brunswick, & Mt. Blue. Mt. Ararat prevailed today on the strength of its tight pack, with Brunswick and Mt. Blue close behind, these teams should go back and forth the rest of the year. (Geoghegan pulls away on the last hill)

Blue all teams that finished in the top 3 in Eastern Regional last fall have a majority of their squads returning. Who will come out on top?

With the 2008 XC season nearly upon us, it is time to look at the contenders for both team and individual glory this fall in the Eastern Maine Class A. The season is sure to provide XC fans in Maine with the opportunity to watch several top-notch athletes chase their dreams of a state title come late November.
Over the next two weeks we will have previews of the upcoming fall XC season in Maine. We will preview both Eastern/Western Maine Boys & Girls teams and top returning athletes. Hear is a brief look at the top teams and individuals.
