Defending champion Brittany Bowman (Camden Hills) scored an upset last fall in winning the Class B title. Bowman won't surprise anyone this year, and repeating is going to be a tall task. Brittany had some strong times outdoor running 5:15.62 (1600m) & 11:16.55 (3200m) before suffering a injury that kept her out of the state meet. Runner-up Bethanie Brown (Waterville) is back, and should be more comfortable with the 5k distance in her 2nd season of XC. Brown had a great fall last year, including a 5th place finish in the NE Championship. Bethanie went on to have a great indoor/outdoor season on the track as she established herself as one of the best ever Maine HS girls, as well as top runners in New England & the US. Brown was an All-American indoors at the 2 Mile, she was the NE outdoor champion @ 1600m & 3200m. She also added the Maine All-time best for 1600m (4:50.39) & 5k (17:11.14). Ellsworth's Aleta Looker is the #3 returner after finishing 4th last fall. Looker improved her during the winter running an impressive 2:16.04 for 800m, outdoors she lowered her 1600m best to 5:08.45.
