Inside Scoop: Caribou HS Girls

Coming off a 3rd place finish in the 2011 Class B State meet the Lady Vikings of Caribou have 8 of their top 11 back from a year ago, inlcuding top runner McKenzie Belyea who was a 7th overall. One thing is for certain Class B is loaded this fall with MDI & Camden Hills, but Caribou is a team to keep an eye on as well. They'll get to face both teams before the state meet so they'll have a good idea how they matchup.

According to Coach Beckum his returners got in some important miles this summer which should aid in a strong season. Watch out for Kristen Macek who is returning from injury she should add a boost to the top 5. Also the Larrabee twins, Robyn & Nerissa had strong outdoor track season that saw them run 12:20.98 & 12:38.3 respectively for 3200m, as freshman last year Nerissa was 25th while Robyn 28th in the state meet.

Coach Beckum says....

Our team is starting to develop into a team. We are returning our top 8 from last years top 11. Last year we were 11 deep and there was always different girls top 7. In fact at the PVC, regional and state meets we ran different girls depending on the day. Last year we had our number 3rd runner get hurt mid season and did not get to finish the year. Kristen Macek is now healthy and we just need to get her in shape. The Larrabee twins (Robyn and Nerrissa) are running great and have more training under their belts this season and they also had a good track season. Mackenzie Belyea has become driven to lead this team and is in good shape to do something special this season. Chelsea Bard just finished a good track season and is looking very strong as she has been in the mix up with the twins. Others who will contribute to the team are Chelsea Haney, Ashley Richards and Mackenzie Deveau.

As a team we are looking to qualify for the state meet. Class B has so much depth then it used to and your team has to be on its game just to qualify. It seems like all the top teams from last year are returning their teams. We are taking each race in stride and go from there. We do have a couple of new girls and at this point I don't know if they will contribute to the varsity Team.
