Brunswick's Jamie Ross got his 2012-13 season underway with a near personal best 4:36.15 to win the mile at the Bowdoin Relays. Ross whose personal best in the event is 4:36.11 was just off that mark with his first race of the season. The time is a state leader in the event. Ross received 19 votes to edge Waterville's Devin Burgess by 4 votes.
Waterville senior Bethanie Brown added another MRC Performance of the Week to her already impressive resume. Brown clocked only the 2nd ever sub 5 minute mile performance in state history and became the first HS girl runner to break the mark in the State of Maine with her winning time 4:59.68 at the Bowdoin Relyas.Her personal best in the event 4:56.35 the only other time ever under 5 for the mile for a Maine HS girl. Brown's time has her ranked #3 in the country. The voting was decisive as she earned 28 of the 41 votes!
MaineTrackXC spoke to Brown this week -"I was really excited to be able to a run a sub 5 mile this early in the season" Brown said of her performance at Bowdoin. "I was nervous before the race, because I had no idea what time I would be able to get and I was hoping to be able to crack five."
What can we look ahead to this year from Brown "I know it's a big goal, but I would like to try to break 4:50 this season."
