Nick Morris of Scarborough outleaned Harlow Ladd of Messalonskee in the closest finish in state meet history 16:46.81 to 16:46.83. Abbey Leonardi cruised to an impressive 4th straight individual title running the fastest time of the day 18:27.19. Cheveus girls dominated the Class A race for the 4rd straight season, placing 4 in the top 6 finishers. On the boys side Scarborough repeated as champions, holding off a strong effort from runner-up Bangor. More to come later..

Cross country: More than just for kicks Oct 30, 2011

CUMBERLAND - "Great race," said Nick Morris to Harlow Ladd. There wasn't time to say more. Two hearts and two minds were still trying to come to grips with what had just happened. After some three miles of running over slick grass and muck at Twin Brook Recreation Area, they arrived at the finish line virtually together. The photo finish gave Morris the Class A cross country championship for a second straight year. It gave Ladd heartbreak. . (via www.pressherald.com)
