Holt 3rd, Sandreuter 4th lead Maine contingent at New Englands Derek Veilleux Nov 9, 2013

Kirstin Sandreuter of Greely had the finest xc race of her hs career to finish 4th in the New England XC Championship running a personal best 17:48.60. On the boys side Telstar's Joe Holt-Andrews led most of race before finishing 3rd, 15:12.90, Liam Simpson of Cape was 8th with Will Shafer of GNG in 17th to earn All-NE honors. Lewiston was the top boys team from Maine in 8th, with MDI leading the girls in 12th.

Ellsworth, MDI girls claim PVC Large School championships; Orono makes it sweep in small-school race Ryan McLaughlin Oct 19, 2013

It was a picture-perfect day at Hermon High School for the Penobscot Valley Conference championship meets Saturday afternoon. The Ellsworth boys and MDI girls claimed the large-school championships while the Orono boys and girls made it a clean sweep in the small school competition. Check out the recap below, and stay tuned for videos of winners Aleta Looker and Brayden Beardsley of Ellsworth. MDI and Ellsworth repeated their large-school titles and will be looking to do the same in the Eastern Maine championships in Belfast next weekend.

Dan Curts & Silas Eastman hooked up in another race for the ages as the two battled each other every setp of the way, and it was only a lean by Curts that gave him the win by just .04 seconds. On the girls side Bethanie Brown ran away with the title as expected, Brown clocked 17:56 to run the fastest time of the day for all girls. The Cape Elizabeth boys used a strong close to get by defending champs Falmouth by 11 points. On the girls side defending champion MDI repeated with another impressive performance in a state meet, the Trojans won by 32 points!

Aleta Looker had to set a new course record to get the win over Maggie Painter of MDI. Dan Curts made it a sweep in the Large School race for Ellsworth. Tyler White & Lily Koffman won the small school races. Orono swept the Small School races, while MDI dominated the Large School girls race & Ellsworth took the boys race.

Inside Scoop: Mt Desert Island Girls Derek Veilleux Aug 18, 2012

Last fall MDI put on a clinic at the state meet on how to run in a pack as the Trojans had a 14 second spread for runners 1-5, which is unheard at any level. With 5 of the tp 16 runners overall it was clear MDI came in on a mission and accomplished it with flying colors. For the rest of Class B this team will be tough to beat as all 7 varisty runners are back as they aim for 2 in a row.

Now that summer is in full swing, and teams have started training for the 2012 XC season, let's take a sneak peek at some track stats that may give us an indication of some teams to watch this fall. Take a look at the top returning high school teams in Maine for cross country based on 3200 meter season best times from the 2012 outdoor season as a virtually scored cross country meet through 7 runners.

Caribou & Bangor Christian Boys & MDI & Orono girls best in PVC Derek Veilleux Oct 16, 2011

The Caribou Boys defended their home turf winning the Large School division of the PVC championship with a 5 point victory over runner-up Ellsworth. Dan Curts of Ellsworth was the individual champion as he dominated the rest fo the field to cover the 3 mile in 16:23.8, the runner-up was Matt Eager (PI) 16:55.5. In the small school division Bangor Christian was the top team behind 4 runners in the top 10 as they tallied 38 points to finish 16 points in front of the runner-up, Orono. In the large school girls race, a short-handed MDI team showed great depth as they managed to hold off a great run from John Bapst for the team title 36-39. Individually Aleta Looker (Ells) continued her impressive running by crossing the line first in 19:18.8 well in front of the runner-up Mackenzie Belyea (Caribou) 19:45.4. In the girls small schools race Rowan Wilson (Orono) was the finisher across the line 20:50.1 as she was 47 seconds better than the runner-up Jordan Richards (Orono) 21:37.8, the duo sparked the Red Riots to the team victory as they tallied just 26 points, Bucksport finished 2nd with 55 points.

In the Boys Hancock County Championship Ellsworth junior Stephen Kirby emerged victorious, crossing the line in 17:16 for a 5 second win over Taylor Lee of Sumner over the 3 mile course. The Eagles placed their 5 scorers in the top 8 to win the meet easily, they were running without their #1 Dan Curts.On the girls side freshman Aleeta Looker won by 19 seconds, Looker's time 19:53, while teammate Bri Dunn was 20:12. Ellsworth edged MDI by 1 point 28-29 to take the team title. RESULTS
