The North headed to Troy Howard Middle School in Belfast, while the South went to the Twinbrook Recreational area in Cumberland. We had several of the top teams in the state battle it out at the KVAC Championships, while some of the top runners rested for the WMC Championships. Hampden, led by Wyatt Lord, gets by Bangor in the KVAC Boys Class A Championship. Mt. Ararat is third,  but the Eagle's Lisandro Berry-Gaviria takes the individual title.In Class B, Lincoln Academy ran away with the title led by individual champion Sam Russ.

The Waterville Panthers swept the Class B team titles as both teams outlasted the competition. Kate Hall won 4 indiivdiual evetns setting meet records in the 100, 200m & long jump. Her 200m mark was a state all-time best. Kaitlin Saulter broke state & meet record in the 400m, 56.95. Dan Curts broke the meet record in the 1600m, 4:09.88.

Messalonskee's Amanda Knight dominated the sprints with 3 wins & 3 state leaders. The Messalonskee girls edge Waterville for the team win 113.5 to 105, while Waterville boys pick up the win over Lewiston 102-96.

Kate Hall of Lake Region opened up her 2013-14 indoor season with a new state indoor record in the long jump at the Bowdoin Relays. Hall, the current state record holder smashed her previous record of 18-6 1/2 with a huge 19-2 jump. The mark is further than her outdoor state record as well. The Waterville boys took the team title with 117 with Messalonskee in 2nd (87) & Brunswick (80) in 3rd. On the girls side Waterville girls held off a strong challenge from Messalonskee 106-97, Brunswick was 3rd with 88.

10:13.90 New State All-Time best for Brown in 3200m Derek Veilleux May 4, 2013

Bethanie Brown destroyed her personal best en route to the fastest 3200m ever run by a Maine HS girl. Brown covered the 8 lap race in a record 10:13.90. The mark took an amazing 5.19 seconds of the former record of Abbey Leonardi. The mark currently ranks Brown #5 nationally. Check out more.

Bethanie Brown of Waterville broke her own Maine all-time best mark in the Mile at the New Balance Grand Prix meet @ Reggie Lewis center this evening. Brown's finishing time was 4:54.57 as she finished 2nd overall in a star studed field. The old mark from the New England Champion meet was 4:56.35. Check out more.

Performances of the Week: Bethanie Brown & Harlow Ladd Derek Veilleux Feb 15, 2012

The Maine Running Company Indoor Track Performance of the Week voting is complete for week #6. On the girls side distance ace  Bethanie Brown (Waterville) received 35.71% of the vote. Brown won both the 800m (2:17.33 ) & Mile (5:08.09_ to win KVAC class B titles, and in the process set league records in both. Bethanie currently holds the top times in the state for 800m, mile & 2 mile. Nationally she is ranked #1 in the 2 mile (10:48.35). At the state she will compete in distance triple as she aims to lead her team to the state title.  On the boys side Messalonskee's Harlow Ladd the top distance runner in the state so far this winter was selected with 60% of the vote. Ladd won the mile & 2 mile while placing 2nd in the 800 at the KVAC Championship last week. Harlow clocked 2:02.76, 4:26.31 & 9:25.5. Harlow's time in the 2 mile improved his state leader & currently ranks him #16 in the country.

The Indoor Track Performance of the Week voting is complete for week #1. On the girls side US#1 ranked 2 Miler Bethanie Brown of  Waterville garnered 62.6 5 of the vote to earn the honors. On the boys side it was a much closer vote as Miguel Caballero & Harlow Ladd were tied 32.56 % of the vote, I flipped a coin to decide the winner, & Miguel Caballero  is our boys selection in week one. Waterville's Bethanie Brown continued her streak of impressive races with a 2nd place finish in the Rhode Island Classic Mile this afternoon. Brown clocked a personal best indoor of 5:01.97, the time currently ranks her #5 in the country. The Maine all-time best indoors for the mile is 5:00.6 by Wendy Delan (Bonny Eagle) set back in 1986 at the Class A state meet.

CAMDEN HILLS GIRLS/MARANACOOK BOYS TOPS IN KVAC B Brian Kelly Oct 16, 2011

  The Camden Hills girls took 3 of the first 5 places in roaring to a 40 point win in KVAC Class B cross-country action today.  Waterville edged Winslow 77-81 to take second place.    For the B boys, Maranacook placed all of their top 5 in the first 20 spots for a comfortable win.  Places 2-4 were taken by Medomak Valley, Lincoln Academy and Waterville.  A single point separated each team.    Waterville's Bethanie Brown captured the girls title followed by the Camden Hills duo of Brittany Bowman and Willow Parker.  On the boys side, Winslow's Nickolas Shuckrow took home the individual title followed by Maranacook's Kelby Mace and Ben Trapani of Camden Hills.

The Waterville Purple Panthers swept the Class B titles. The Lady Panthers dominated the rest of Class B amassing an impressive 145 1/2 points while York was the runner-up with 63, & Old Town a close 3rd with 62. The Brewer girls were dominant for the third time in as many weeks while the Hampden Academy boys showed they'll be a force to reckon with in the Eastern Maine Class A ranks this fall. The Bronco boys scored 33 points to win a four-team meet on their home course, while Brewer earned runner-up honors with 58. Bangor finished third with 69 and Waterville's 82 rounded out the field.
